Thatho Mahlalela
My name is Thatho Mahlalela, and I am a law student at the University of Mpumalanga. I completed my second year of studies in 2025. My second year was financially much better than my first year, as I did not have to worry about money. Since January 2025 I have been a YEBO Student and receive a monthly allowance! A significant difference in my life.
My biggest challenges during my second year were academic. I struggled with a module called Law of Contract. I managed to pass Law of Contract in the first semester with 59%, but I failed Law of Contract: Specific Contracts in the second semester with 32%, which was the worst thing that happened to me that year.
The two best things that happened to me were, firstly, celebrating my sister’s wedding and having the honour of being a bridesmaid, and secondly, not having to stress about anything other than my academics, unlike many other students.
In 2026, I will be doing my third year, and I am looking forward to gaining practical experience during my breaks (holidays). I have promised myself that I will not fail again, and that when I pass, I will pass with distinctions only. I am also looking forward to becoming the best version of myself and spending more time with my friends and family. I pray that God continues to protect them all.
